School Trip to High 5 Bread Factory–18/10/2012
Written @ 17:13

Yes!! It’s school trip day again, and this time we are headed to the High 5 Bread Factory in Shah Alam. In Malaysia where ‘Nasi Lemak’ and ‘Roti Canai’ rules, the common bread is still a favorite among many children. Hence it was a beautiful day and the children all came very early to school to set off on our adventure to visit the bread factory. Here are some photos of the children before we begin our journey.

In the bus, the children were served breakfast – corn cream roll bread!! Yummy! And while they ate, they also enjoyed the ‘Tom & Jerry’ cartoon show on the TV.

We arrived at the bread factory and everyone alighted the bus, eager to begin the visit. The entrance to High 5 was rather grand and it feels like we were entering an amusement park! There was a giant size loaf of High 5 bread inside and needless to say, the camera went ‘click’, ‘click’, ‘click’.

The visit began with a video presentation about the history of bread from the Egyptians to modern times. Then we walked through a museum which highlights the history of bread and the making of bread. The walkway continues to the factory where we walked on a glass covered bridge which stretches across the whole factory. The children saw how the bread was made from the dough, into the oven, onto the cooling racks, and then packed into the plastic bags. We have never seen so many loaves of bread before…..Smile At the end of the visit, every child was presented with goody bags. Inside the bag was a loaf of bread with cream rolls and buns. The children were so excited about their goody bag, they were seen rummaging into the bags and little Nur Imman even began eating her chocolate cream roll. What a perfect gift to end the visit.

The bus took us back to our school where a meal of pizza awaits everyone. The children were tired after the excitement of the day but when they saw the pizza, it was happy time for them again.

Now that our children have seen how bread is made, they understand that bread does not come from the supermarket shelf.

We had a fun and happy day!
